This year, International Men’s Day on 19 November recognises the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. This underpins our company’s approach to Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) – to embrace a culture of belonging and equality by embedding inclusive behaviours at the heart of everything we do.
There is a misconception that International Men’s Day is a “response” to International Women’s Day; however it is about focusing on the mental and physical wellbeing of men, while addressing harmful stereotypes that may hold men back. It is also an acknowledgement of the evolution of the role male colleagues play as equality partners; positively contributing at work, home and in the community. Improving gender parity is an important step in creating an inclusive culture.
Mental health is a key focus this International Men’s Day. Globally, the suicide rate for men is twice as high as for women. And in many countries this ratio is even higher. It is important that we all look after our own mental health, both men and women. At Micro Focus, we offer a variety of useful resources, including webinars and videos, to all colleagues and for International Men’s Day we are launching three new sessions: How to Better Manage Stress, Resilience: Beyond the Basics and Understand & Embrace Diversity.
To further mark the event, we are encouraging everyone to take time to prioritise looking after their mental health. Paul Rodgers, Chief Operating Officer, has shared his story with our employees as to how he’s looking after his mental health by maintaining a good work-life balance and how he’s supporting the company’s D&I commitments. Hearing from senior leaders on such a critical subject helps break down taboos and encourages an open dialogue on these critical subjects. Micro Focus is proud to recognise and support International Men’s Day 2022.
