Micro Focus Belfast – some background…
Micro Focus established a presence in Belfast in mid-2009 following an acquisition, inheriting 38 Technical Support staff in Borland Software’s Centre of Excellence. Recognising the capabilities of the Belfast workforce, the wealth of talent in the job market and the calibre of graduates from the local universities, the company soon capitalised on the opportunity to grow the technical function and initiate a complementary sales function.
Today, Micro Focus Belfast has 130 staff across multiple functions – Enterprise Software Sales, Renewals, R&D, Support and Technical Services. The company has a progressive ethos, hiring staff into entry-level positions where possible and developing our people into more senior roles.
To support a diverse range of customers, Micro Focus Belfast has a multi-cultural population with employees coming from 27 countries to work alongside our home-grown talent. The company has low attrition and in the 12 months to February 2018, there have been 25 promotions or lateral moves within Belfast. There are also numerous examples over the years of our talented staff being assigned to other global Micro Focus locations.
First rate Support
Sandrine Escudie is the Team Lead for First Line Support in Micro Focus. The team of 23 is managed from Belfast with satellite sites in Utah and Singapore.
First Line is the first point of contact for customers worldwide for any issues they have relating to company products. Beyond dealing with international customers in 6 languages, the team work with a very diverse set of systems, processes and products which are the result of multiple acquisitions. Whichever way you look at it, the First Line team works in a complex environment.
Sandrine joined First Line in 2013. As a result of consistent performance, strong customer focus and commitment to continuous improvement, she was promoted to Team Lead in 2017. One focus of her role in the last year has been to harmonise support across teams from separately acquired companies. Sandrine has also made a major contribution cross-functionally and provides invaluable suggestions for improvement of customer-facing systems.
Micro Focus Belfast – winning workplace culture
In addition to outstanding work in her role, Sandrine plays a unique part in the Belfast team. She is the driver behind the Social Committee. She is a founding member of a badminton club which has weekly participation of over 10% of staff and she runs regular office yoga sessions. Unbidden, she personally welcomes new employees to the company. Her positive influence goes beyond the office through the kindness and friendship she shares with many colleagues in her personal life.
Sandrine is an excellent professional – highly motivated and very focused. She works very hard to ensure success of her team and is always willing to take on new challenges. While doing so, she also makes a fantastic contribution to bringing people together and making Micro Focus a great place to work. She is an asset to the company and a great credit to the Belfast team. This is why Sandrine is Micro Focus Belfast’s nomination for the Belfast Business Awards Employee of the Year. I am absolutely delighted that she is a Finalist and look forward to celebrating with the local business community at the gala dinner on 27th April!
